The Montenegrin Ministry for Labour and Social Care adopted new Strategy for Integration of Persons with Disabilities 2016-2020 defining set of aims, measures and actions aimed at improving the position of persons with disabilities in various fields, according to the European Strategy for Persons with Disabilities 2010-2020. The Law on Ratification of UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities obliged Montenegro to harmonize national legislation with this Convention
The Montenegrin Ministry for Human and Minority Rights initiated the procedure of amending the existing LPD in order to improve the prohibition against discrimination and additionally harmonize this law with the anti-discriminatory international law and standards, first of all, with the EU directives and UN conventions ratified my Montenegro.
The OSCE – ODIHR, within BPRI project, submitted recommendations to the Montenegrin Government regarding the politicisation of Minority Councils, who are in charge of the promotion and development of the rights of minorities and other minority ethnic groups and their members.
In order to harmonise national legislation with international documents (primarily with United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with disabilities and the Optional Protocol to the Convention) as well as to improve anti-discriminatory legal framework on protection of persons with disabilities, Montenegrin Parliament adopted the new Law on Prohibition Against Discrimination of Persons with Disabilities on 26 June 2015.
